  1. What is tummy time?
    • Putting baby on their stomach to plan
    • History: Back to Sleep Campaign, increase in time spent in supine, not enough time on tummy.
    • Too much time spent on back contributes to decreased motor development, increased incidences of plagiocephaly (flat head).
  2.  How does tummy time contribute to baby’s growth and development:
    • Neck and back strength
    • Upper body strength
    • Head shape
    • Sensory processing development
    • Coordination
    • Further motor milestones
  3. How can you make tummy time easier for you and your baby? (Exercise list)
    • Take away gravity
    • Recline and relax
    • Incline play
    • Tummy carry
    • Use a prop or roll
    • Baby airplane

About your presenter:

Jennifer Halfin – Physiotherapist

Jennifer Halfin is a registered physiotherapist working in the field of pediatrics for the last 7 years. She graduated with a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from McGill University, receiving the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s Pediatric Division Award for achievement in pediatrics.

Jennifer works with children of all ages, helping them to achieve their motor milestones through a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cuevas MEDEK Exercises (level II), Neurodevelopmental Therapy, and various other continuing education courses. With extensive experience in torticollis, plagiocephaly (flathead), motor delay, cerebral palsy, and genetic disorders, Jennifer loves to follow her clients as they age to continue to support their progress.

As a mom of two young boys, Jennifer loves to incorporate play into her sessions and is always high energy. Follow her on Instagram @mykidsphysio for fun ways to promote your little one’s development!
